InterContinental London Park Lane
London, United Kingdom
Steps from Hyde Park, on the quiet side of Mayfair; I would happily go back at the InterContinental Park Lane. The location is the real draw, Wellington Arch out the window, the park on one side, the city on the other, yet it stays calm despite how central it is.
Afternoon tea in the Wellington Lounge is worth building a day around: warm scones, proper sandwiches, the full tiered stand, and live music toward the weekend. There's a children's rate too, so it's an easy one to bring the kids to, and the staff went out of their way for ours, which is not something I say lightly about a fancy tea room.
Service throughout is warm and quick without hovering. Club InterContinental members get their own lounge with breakfast and evening drinks, a good place to settle between outings. I'd point families here first, it manages to be smart without being precious about kids, but it works just as well if you're in town for business and want somewhere quiet and central to land.
